Gas Appliance Installation Gold Coast

A new cooktop, oven or heater needs a line run to it and a licensed gas fitter to connect it. Water and drainage for a new kitchen is kitchen plumbing. We install it, and certify it when it is finished.

Gas appliance installation: what licensed work covers

Connecting, disconnecting or altering a gas cooktop, oven, heater or gas line is licensed work in Queensland, and it is unlawful for anyone else to do it, including the homeowner. A plumbing licence on its own does not authorise gas work. Jamie Vesey is a licensed plumber and gas fitter, so a job with gas and water is one booking.

The install is more than the connection. The appliance clearances and the ventilation requirements have to be met, which a supplier will not have checked, and installed work has to be certified. It is part of our wider gas fitting. If you can smell gas at any point, leave and call 000 or your gas supplier first.

Appliances we install

  • Cooktops

Built into a bench, with the line run to suit.

  • Ovens

    Gas ovens and freestanding cookers.

  • Heaters

Gas heaters, including the flue and ventilation they need.

  • Gas hot water

Part of our hot water system replacement work.

What a gas appliance installation involves

  • A gas line run to the appliance

From the existing line, sized to suit the appliance.

  • The connection

Made by a licensed gas fitter, to suit the appliance and the gas type.

  • Clearances and ventilation

The position has to meet the requirements for the appliance.

  • Commissioning and certification

A licensed gas fitter certifies the installed work when it is finished.

Can you smell gas?

Leave the area, do not use switches or flames, and call 000 or your gas supplier's emergency number first. Call us once you are safe. Gas work is for a licensed gas fitter only. See gas fitting.

Before you book a gas appliance installation

Yes, for any appliance fixed in place. Connecting, disconnecting or altering a gas cooktop, oven, heater or gas line is licensed work in Queensland, and it is unlawful for anyone else to do it, including the homeowner. Installed work also has to be certified, and only a licensed gas fitter can do that.

Only if they also hold a gas fitting licence. Plumbing and gas fitting are separate licence classes, and a plumbing licence on its own does not authorise gas work, so it is worth asking before you book. Jamie Vesey holds both, so a kitchen with water and gas is one booking.

A gas line run to the appliance, the connection, and checks on clearances and ventilation. A licensed gas fitter then certifies the work when it is finished. If the appliance replaces an old one in the same place, the job is smaller than a new position.

Sometimes. Many appliances can be converted with a manufacturer conversion kit, because the two gases burn at different pressures. Some appliances have no kit available and cannot be converted safely. Either way the conversion is licensed work, and the appliance has to be recommissioned and certified afterwards.

The make and model of the appliance if you have it, where it is going, and where the gas meter or bottle is. Tell us whether it replaces an existing appliance or is new. That is enough for us to plan the job and give you a written price.

Leave the area, do not use switches or flames, and call 000 or your gas supplier's emergency number first. Then call us once you are safe. Do not wait for a visit, and do not try to work out the cause yourself.

Whether it replaces an old appliance or goes in a new position, how far the new line has to run, and the type of appliance. A swap in the same place is the smaller job. You get a written price before we start.
