Vesey Plumbing Solutions attends burst pipes, sewage coming up inside and no water across the Gold Coast, Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm. We do not work nights or weekends. Licensed plumber Jamie Vesey gives you the price in writing before he starts.

Water pouring out right now?

Turn off the main tap at your water meter. Keep clear of wet power points, lights and appliances. Stay out from under a ceiling that is sagging or dripping. Then call us.

The main tap is usually at the water meter, near the front boundary. In a unit, the building or strata manager may control it.

Outside our hours, keep the water off at the meter, then call us when we open, or email the address and what has happened.

Can you smell gas?

Call 000 or your gas supplier's emergency number now, whatever the strength of the smell and whatever the time. The number is on your gas bill or bottle. Call us once you are safe.

Smell gas? Call 000 first, then us.

What is happening right now?

A pipe has burst

Do this first

Turn the water off at the main tap beside the meter. Then open a cold tap inside to drain what is left. See burst pipe repairs.

Then call

Call us with the address and where the water is coming from. Outside our hours, keep the water off at the main, then call or email us when we open with the address and what has happened.

Water is coming through the ceiling

Do this first

Turn the water off at the main and keep everyone out from under the wet patch. A ceiling that sags or bulges can come down. Stay away from wet light fittings and power points.

Then call

Call us and tell us whether the water stopped when the main went off. If it did not, it may be coming from the roof or from a unit above. Outside our hours, call or email us when we open.

Sewage is coming up inside

Do this first

Stop using every toilet, shower, sink and the washing machine, because whatever goes down comes back up. Keep children and pets away from it, and do not clean it up with bare hands. Close the door to the room if you can. More on blocked sewer drains.

Then call

Ask a neighbour if their drains are backing up too. If they are, the problem may be in the main sewer and the City of Gold Coast is the one to call. If not, call us and tell us which drains are affected. Outside our hours, call or email us when we open.

Our only toilet is blocked

Do this first

Stop flushing. A second flush on a blocked toilet usually ends up on the floor. If the water keeps rising, turn off the small tap on the wall behind the toilet. A plunger is worth one careful try if you have one. Chemical drain cleaners are not.

Then call

Call us and tell us whether the shower, basins or other drains are slow too. If they are, the blockage is further down the pipe than the toilet, and it is a blocked drain job. Outside our hours, call or email us when we open.

I can smell gas

Call 000 first

Call 000 or your gas supplier's emergency number now, whatever the strength of the smell and whatever the time. The number is on your gas bill or bottle. Once you are safe, call us. The leak needs licensed gas fitting to find and repair it.

We have no water at all

Do this first

Check the tap at your water meter, near the front boundary, is fully open. Then ask a neighbour whether they have water. If the street is out, the problem is the supply rather than your pipes, and the City of Gold Coast is the one to call.

Then call

If the neighbours have water and your meter tap is open, the fault is on your side of the meter. Call us, and mention any wet ground in the yard. Outside our hours, call or email us when we open.

Something else

Not on the list?

If water, sewage or gas is doing damage right now, or the house is not safe to use, treat it as urgent whether it is listed here or not. A leaking hot water tank has its own page under hot water systems.

What to do

Turn the water off at the main if you can do it safely. If it is gas, call 000 or your gas supplier first. Then call and tell us what is happening in your own words. Outside our hours, call or email us when we open.

What happens when we get there

  1. Stop the water

If it is still running, stopping it comes first. Nothing else gets fixed while it is still coming out.

  2. Make it safe

Anything that could hurt someone or cause more damage is dealt with before the repair. A smell of gas is a call to 000 first.

  3. Get the water back on

Where it is safe, we get water back to the rest of the house. Then you get a written price for the full repair before it starts.

  4. Tell you what failed

You hear what failed and why. Useful for an insurance claim.

A written price. Guaranteed workmanship.

A written price before we start, and our workmanship guaranteed for as long as you own the home.

You get the price in writing before any work begins. If we find something the quote did not cover, we stop and tell you what it means before we touch it. If our workmanship ever fails, we will repair or redo the work, whichever we judge right for the job.

Some jobs cannot be quoted without opening something up. Where that is the case, we tell you before we start.

The workmanship guarantee covers the work we carry out, for as long as you own the property. Anything we supply also carries its manufacturer's warranty, and we will help you claim on it. This guarantee is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. How to make a claim, and your consumer guarantees.

What to tell us when you call

  • The address

The full street address, and the unit or lot number if there is one. Say it first, in case the call drops.

  • What is happening

Where the water, sewage or smell is coming from, and whether it is getting worse. Your own words are fine.

  • Whether it is off

Whether you have turned the water off at the main or the gas off at the meter, or could not find it.

  • Photos, if it is safe

A photo of the leak, the damage and the area around it. Never stand in water near power to take one.

Emergency plumbing questions people ask

An emergency is anything causing damage right now or making the property unsafe: a burst pipe, water coming through a ceiling, sewage backing up inside, a gas leak (call 000 first), or a total loss of water. A blocked toilet in a house with only one bathroom counts as well. A dripping tap does not, however annoying it is, and it can wait for a booked repair visit.

No, we are open Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and we would rather say so than let you find out at midnight. Outside those hours, turn the water off at the main if you can do it safely. For a gas leak, call 000 or your gas supplier's emergency number, not us. Then call or email us when we open, with the address and what has happened.

No, we work Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, and we do not book weekend jobs. If something goes wrong on a Saturday or Sunday, turn the water off at the main if it is safe to. For a gas leak, call 000 or your gas supplier's emergency number. Then call or email us when we open on Monday, with the address and what has happened.

It can be. Water and electricity together are the real danger in a leaking ceiling, more than the water itself. Stay away from wet light fittings and power points, and keep everyone out from under a ceiling that is sagging. Turn the water off at the main if it is safe to, then call us. If a wet fitting or power point worries you, call an electrician.

Call your property manager or landlord first, because they are the ones who arrange repairs to the property. If you cannot reach them and water is doing damage, turn it off at the main if it is safe to. For gas, call 000 or the gas supplier's emergency number. We work with property managers, so they can pass the job to us and we arrange access with you.

Yes, we work on strata buildings and commercial properties as well as houses. In a strata building, tell the building or strata manager as well as us, because the main shut-off and the pipe that failed may be shared property. For a shop or kitchen, tell us when you need to trade, and whether the water or gas to the whole site is off.

Photograph the failure point itself, the water at its worst, and every affected room and item before anything is moved or dried out. Take wide shots for context and close shots for detail. Capture the ceiling or wall while the damage is still visible, keep any failed part the plumber removes, and keep the invoice and the written cause.

The general rule is that the property owner is responsible for the pipework on their side of the water meter, and the City of Gold Coast for the main and the connection up to it. Sewer responsibility is usually divided at the property boundary in a similar way. The City of Gold Coast publishes the exact split, and it is worth checking before you pay.
