Commercial gas fit-outs: how we plan one

Every gas appliance has a gas rating, and together they decide the size of the line from the meter. That is why a fit-out starts with the equipment list, not the quote. Connecting, disconnecting or altering gas appliances and lines is licensed work in Queensland, and Jamie Vesey is a licensed plumber and gas fitter.

A kitchen with gas also has water, drainage and often a hot water system. One business does the gas, water and drainage. The gas side is part of our wider gas fitting. If you can smell gas at any point, leave and call 000 or your gas supplier first.

What we need to plan a fit-out

  • The equipment list

Every gas appliance you plan to run, with makes and models if you have them.

  • A floor plan

    With the equipment positions marked.

  • Where the gas meter is

The line runs from there, so the distance matters.

  • The dates the kitchen has to stay open

So we plan the work around your trading.

What a commercial gas fit-out involves

  • Sizing the line

The combined gas rating of the equipment decides the size from the meter.

  • Running the line

To each appliance, in the positions on your plan.

  • Connecting the equipment

Made by a licensed gas fitter, to suit each appliance.

  • Certifying the work

A licensed gas fitter issues the paperwork the job requires when it is finished.

Can you smell gas?

Leave the area, do not use switches or flames, and call 000 or your gas supplier's emergency number first. Call us once you are safe. Gas work is for a licensed gas fitter only. See gas fitting.

Commercial gas fit-outs: what owners ask

The equipment list is the starting point: every gas appliance you plan to run, with makes and models if you have them. Each has a gas rating, and together they decide the size of the line from the meter. A floor plan, the meter position and the dates the kitchen has to stay open let us price the job.

We plan the work around the dates you tell us. We work Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm, so tell us at the start what has to stay open and what can close.

Yes. A commercial kitchen needs water, drainage and often hot water as well as gas. Jamie Vesey holds both licences, so it is one booking. See kitchen plumbing for the water side.

Yes. Connecting, disconnecting or altering gas appliances and lines is licensed work in Queensland, and it is unlawful for anyone else to do it. Installed work also has to be certified, and only a licensed gas fitter can do that.

The gas ratings of the new equipment decide the size of the line, and an undersized one can cause appliances to underperform. A licensed gas fitter works out what the line needs and tells you before you buy.

Yes, connecting the equipment is part of the fit-out. See gas appliance installation for what the connection involves, and gas compliance certificates for the paperwork.
