Hot Water Repairs Gold Coast

Most hot water faults are a part, not the tank. If the tank itself has failed, it is hot water system replacement. We find what has failed before we suggest anything else.

What fails in a hot water system

Most hot water faults sit in a part that can be swapped: the element, the thermostat, the pressure relief valve or the sacrificial anode. We find which one has failed and tell you what the repair involves before any work starts. This is one part of our wider hot water systems work.

A repair is worth it when the tank is sound. When water is coming through the wall of the tank, no part will fix it, and the answer is hot water system replacement. See how to repair or replace a hot water system.

The parts we repair

  • Elements

The part that heats the water in an electric tank. A failed one leaves you with no hot water, or water that runs out early.

  • Thermostats

They control the temperature. A faulty or badly set one can leave the water lukewarm.

  • Valves

The pressure relief valve lets pressure out as the water heats. A small discharge while heating is normal. A constant drip is not.

  • Anodes

The sacrificial anode is designed to corrode so the tank does not. Replacing it once it wears out helps the tank last.

Signs it is a repair, not a new system

  • No hot water at all

On an electric system, often an element or a thermostat.

  • Hot water that runs out part way through a shower

Usually a failed element or a thermostat set too low, so only the top of the tank is hot.

  • Water that never gets past lukewarm

Points to the heating or the temperature control, not the tank.

  • A relief valve that drips constantly

The valve is a replaceable part.

Common questions about hot water repairs

Usually it can be repaired when the fault is in a part, such as the element, thermostat or valve, and the tank is sound. It needs replacing when the tank is leaking from its body or has rusted through. We check which it is first.

No hot water at all, water that stays lukewarm, or hot water that runs out sooner than it used to. These point to the heating or the temperature control rather than the tank.

Usually, yes. A small discharge while the water heats is normal. A drip that never stops usually means the valve has worn or is holding grit, and the valve is a replaceable part, not a reason to replace the system. Water pressure into the house can also be behind it, and we check that too.

The anode is a metal rod inside the tank, made to corrode so the tank does not. Once it is used up, the tank itself starts to corrode. Replacing the anode once it wears out extends the life of the tank, so it is worth having looked at on an older system, before rust shows up in the water.

The part that has failed, the type of system, and how easy the unit is to reach. A small part on a sound tank is usually the smaller bill, while repeat faults on an old tank can tip the balance towards a new system. You get a written price for the repair before we start.
